Kursters Drink Coasters are handcrafted from vintage artwork and upcycled materials discovered at estate sales and auctions. Authentic artwork is mounted and waterproofed with a non-toxic heat laminate, then assembled and backed with cork to protect fine surfaces or to be used as the ‘thirsty’ side.

On my amazing trips throughout Mexico, I’ve selected handmade fabrics and textiles …  from women who handcraft them and then sell them in mercados or directly to patrons walking by. I just loved the colors and images so much and wondered if I could somehow convert the artwork into drink coasters before using the fabrics to create my new pillow line - Kurscinis. I photographed each piece of fabric, then converted the photos into graphic designs and augmented the colors. They turned out looking like talavera tiles. So beautiful! That artwork is then mounted and waterproofed with a non-toxic heat laminate, then assembled and backed with cork to protect fine surfaces or to be used as the ‘thirsty’ side. I’ve given each style a name reminiscent of Mexico’s beautiful lyric language.
